Creating meaning: Drawings of special children

“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a life time to paint like a child.” Pablo Picasso.
My inspiration came from the drawings of special children. Through the process of observing and analysing the drawings of children, insights can be gained about social/emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child. Children find pencils, brushes, and paper as a tool to express themselves, conveying their fondest hopes and most profound fears.

The pressure on these young lives to be a “high functioning child” suppresses the potential they could exhibit in various forms to the world.

I took a step forward and highlighted the hidden emotions and imagination of these creative minds and tried to establish meaning through the images they created.
The powerful energy in their strokes communicates beyond words. It is this communication gap that I want to bridge by finding meaning through images.
